Yet another on-tap only “pub exclusive” only available at the GLBC. Served in a pint glass, this beer draws a clear, very dark amber/copper color with a slightly off-white head that’s an inch thick when first drawn and served. Settles to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass. Not really any lacing though. Aromas of somewhat ttoasted, bready malts with definite caramel sweetness with a bit of spice and plum. A very similar flavor profile, wit toasted, bready malts and definite caramel sweetness with a bit of spice and plum. Not really any hop flavor here, just a slight touch of some earthy hops, but you really have to pay attention and look for it to taste it. Has a fairly crisp, slightly prickly, yet also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish with a mildly sweet aftertaste. Another good beer here from the fine folks at the GLBC.

I tried this at Local Roots in Powell, OH. It poured a clear dark amber with off white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had nice German dark malt. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with malt presence. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

On tap:
Dark body, a blood red-accented brown. Clarity is noted with effort. Medium collar with a small island on this pour, quick light tan froth when agitated.
Nose is charred caramel more than molasses - to mean deeper and more cooked than other beers. Bit of fig and maybe a little black cherry.
Taste starts more earthy and just a bit more bitter by the end than expected. A woody bitterness shrouds but doesn’t dominate the dark fruit jam and toasted bread combination. Plum and dark fruit gets a little grape jam on the fruity side, though again, it’s countered by the woodsy to earthy bitter coverage. The bitterness fades a bit as it warms, opening cinnamon and an occasional cherry hard candy notes.
Just a little bite after a bit, a medium full, subdued but malt-leaning offering once I got into it.

On Draft. Plastic cup.
A: pours a light brown with 1 fingerbthick bubbly head that retains well. Good lacing, for a plastic cup.
S: not as fruity as some doppelbocks I've had; sweet and malty. Caramel, chocolate, toasted bread. Some vague sweet and dark fruit.
T: more restrained arrival than I'd think. Sweet, fruity middle, but not as sweet as other doppelbocks I've had. Turns appropriately bitter at the end; not a medicinal bitterness; very clean but bitter.
M: full bodied with high (but not excessive) carbonation. Surprisingly clean finish.
O: I don't know if this was meant to replace Doppelrock, but I like it a lot more. Goes well with a rainy night at the movies. Don't think I could put back a sixer of this, but could handle a bomber.

Traditional optics. Both the nose and the tongue present a well-done, classical dopplebock. Dark fruit esters of fig & date, caramel malt, and a bit of alchohol phenol. Checks all the boxes

From a growler via Jungle Jim's Eastgate in a snifter. This nice Dopplebock
pours a nice medium dark brown mahogany with a very nice head of off white
foam that subsides to a thick ring, thin layer, and features some darn nice
sudsy lacing. Nose of brown sugars, dates, and subtle dark cherries. Flavors
lightly exceed the nose with dark cherries and brown sugars with a touch of
date and sweet caramel malts with a lightly boozy finish. Nice mouth feel;
medium body, medium light carbonation, lightly creamy, and finishing sweet
with a whisper of herbal hops.
Overall---one of the better Dopples I have had in quite awhile and a brew that
makes me reconsider what my opinion was of Great Lakes the last few years.
NICE
Cheers
