We ponied up loads of lime peel, tangy ginger, and dry rye, then kicked in bright Citra hops to create this cocktail-inspired “beer of a different color.”

MALTS:Harrington 2-Row, Rye, Crystal, Carapils

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours orange yellow with a fluffy white head. Smells of wheat citrus (especially lime) with ginger. Tastes of wheat citrus with heavy ginger. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

12oz bottle into a tall glass at lunch today. Rustic Kitchen at Mohecan Poconos. Best by 9/28/19, so about 3 months late on this one

Poured nicely except for the many floating particulates. Nice dull golden color body, white head persisted in some form throughout.

Aroma of lime, stronger than the ginger smell

Upon tasting, any hop bite has faded, so it's a basic spice beer. The taste is the reverse of the nose, ginger being slightly stronger. It's similar to Left Hand's Good JuJu, but this is a little better

Mouth around medium, finish ginger-lime.

Overall, happy to have found this beer. Even 3 months past it's BB, it's still an okay drink.

$ 10.00 (Including tax)/4-pack of 12 oz bottles ($0.208/oz) from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Reviewed 10/26/19.
“Enjoy by 9/23/19” stamped in white letters on the side of the label. Stored on the shelf at the store, stored at 42 degrees and served at 50 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Yellow, clear.
Body – Light orange, clear.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.2 cm, aggressive center pour), off-white, initially fizzy but settling into a high-density head, average duration, diminishing to a four mm crown with a thin cap.
Lacing – Poor. Some tiny bubble drag marks only.
Aroma – 3.5 - Begins with weak lime followed by weaker ginger.
Flavor – 4 - Surprisingly begins with malt which quickly shifts to lime – middle and ending palate are ginger. A bit spicy, maybe from the rye, maybe from the ginger. No hops detected. No alcohol (6.5% ABV) flavor or aroma, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide. Gastric warming does occur but is ginger based.
Palate – 3 – Medium, just short of syrupy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy by 9/23/19 – I hadn’t even heard of this brew by 9/23/19. Still, for being over a month past date and for sitting for who knows how long at room temperature, it’s still a tasty brew. I’d love to have this one on tap.

This is my first disappointing Great Lakes beer. Looks & smells lovely, but the “loads of line peel, tangy ginger, and dry rye” just aren't there; all I get are the hops. This is a fine hoppy ale, but misses the mark as a Moscow Mule alternative.

With the growing popularity of the cocktail segment of imbibers, it's no taken long for brewers like those of Great Lakes to employ many of those flavors into their next experimental beer. Next up: the moscow mule of a beer.

Bucking the popular trend, Buckin' Mule starts with a caramelized grain scent and those popular spice, citrus zest and mild bready scents but soon departs from the cocktail's origins with a botanical, green scent of Citra hops. Underneath its ivory froth and buried inside its amber body likes a sweeter, breadier and toastier malt component that just screams "beer"!

As the flavors roll along the middle palate, is sweetness stews gently on the tastebuds and invites the complementary hops to share a strong tangerine with the lime zest additions for a decidedly citrusy flavor. The spice of ginger is just the start as the bitterness of fruit zest, herbal hop resins and an overall spicy green taste soon takes command of the finish.

Medium bodied and attempting to dry on the finish, the roundness of malt keeps the beer with a measurable bulk and sweetness that fights the beer's tendency to crispen, dry and refresh the palate properly. Its stubborn bitterness leads to a long aftertaste of peppery pine, hemp and the husken grit of rye.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a clear, medium copper color with lots of streams of little bubbles fairly rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Has a white, creamy looking head that's about an inch thick when first poured that settles to a thick surface coating with a thick ring lining the inside of the glass and good lacing. Aromas of some toasted bready malts along with hints of rye, orange, and citrus along with definite ginger. The taste is pretty similar, with some toasted breaded malts with some caramel sweetness followed almost immediately by ginger and lime. Rounded out with a bit of rye, a hint of peppercorn, and slight citrus hops. Good balance of flavors. Has a somewhat crisp, also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Very easy to drink. Has a clean finish and the ginger, lime, and bready malts hang around for the aftertaste for awhile. A very nice beer here all around.

Shimmering gold with minimal head, this is a little weird, even giving a sort of a hefe vibe in the background. Ginger is there, while the lime is mild and barely tart. It's just not for me.
