Review taken March 14th, 2015. Don't know why it's listed as retired as they had it tapped at their brew pub. So it's still being made guys n gals..

Poured from the fabulous upstairs bar at the Great Lakes Brew Pub into a lovely stemmed Belgian tulip with a ultra wide flare at the top.

A - deep dark ruby with shades of purple and dark red at different angles in the light. Hazy with a beautiful clouded body. Off white to a light tan head sits with good size leaving sticky thin lace all the way down the glass.

S - sweet candied malt and sugared dark fruits. A lovely Belgian style yeast that is pure GLBC is style. Very nice fruity and breaded malt aroma.

T - sweet caramel and bread like malts. Sugared candy, dark fruits with hints of Belgian spices. The yeast is a great American take of a Belgian classic. All the notes blend nicely together.

M - medium bodied with superb texture. Coats the mouth with its sweet and fruit flavored goodness. This carries a well balanced and very drinkable mouthfeel.

O - I was so glad to see this on my trip to the brew pub. A beautiful dubbel and one I'd buy in the bottle any time it's released. This shows the true brewing quality at GLBC. If you like an American take on a great belgian classic then this is worth the try. Paired very well with their famous and delicious bread pudding.

Well apparently the folks at the GLBC have brought this beer out of retirement because I am at the brewpub drinking it right now. This is another of their on-tap only "pub exclusives" that they have. Serves to me in a tulip glass, this beer draws a cloudy, hazy, medium to dark copper color with a nice fluffy white head that's about 1/2 of an inch thick when first poured. Eventually settles to a fairly thin ring lining the inside of the glass along with pretty good lacing. Aromas of caramel malt sweetness and a strong Belgian candy sugar presence. Tastewise it has a nice caramel malt presence upfront followed by some hints if spice and the aforementioned Belgian candy sugar sweetness. This is also a bit boozy. Not really any discernible hop presence, just a slight hint of or on the back end. Has a crisp, smooth, slightly prickly, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in the good way.

Ppours a hazy amber color with a off white head. In the aroma, a small fruitiness to nothing. In the taste, spicy fig juice is the best way to put it. A spice bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry spice in the aftertaste. A bit bland, but average I suppose.

Available only at the Great Lakes Brewing Company restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio. This brew has a great dark ruby color that has a little but of haze to it. Decent head retention with a little bit of lacing down the sides of the glass. Smell has some fruity notes, tinge of banana as well. The flavor is along those same lines with notes of dark fruits and a little hint of banana. The alcohol does not overpower this one and works well in the style. Great beer and hopefully i'll be up there soon to get this one again.
