Having this beer on-tap at the brewery. This beer draws a clear, very dark, amber brown color along with a white head that’s about an inch thick when first drawn and served. Head settles eventually to a thin ring lining the inside of the glass at the beer’s surface and barely any lacing. Slightly disappointing in that regard I suppose. Aromas of zesty, bready, toasted malts followed notes of chocolate, orange peel, and anise along with slightly herbal, earthy hop notes. A very similar flavor profile, with the aforementioned toasted, bready malts with some mild to moderate caramel and chocolate sweetness followed by notes of orange peel and anise that are quite well integrated that are rounded out with a slightly herbal, earthy hop presence that adds justvthe right amount of bitterness.
