On tap at the brewpub.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice sturdy black color with a slim cap of a little white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. No lace.
The aroma had some roasty to burnt malts up front, then some light coffee grounds, some light coffee beans, light vanilla extract then some wood and finally the maple faintly presents itself ever so slightly underneath.
The flavor was somewhat ruggedly roasty up front pulling the vanilla in tightly for some sweetness and then amply pulling in the maple. Aftertaste was fairly ruggedly roasty.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fine sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt low, like this had some "cask" elements to it (actually, I think it did). ABV felt appropriate but didn't leave me "floating" like some of those high ABV-ed beers leave me, it's not necessarily hidden, but definitely incurs it's weight for the brewer's intentions.
Overall, since beer advocate doesn't accept "imperial porter" as a style, I had to put this in here as a Baltic Porter for ABV purposes, however, anyone looking to drink this, please don't consider a true "Baltic Porter" by style. It's still lovely to drink on a cool Summer's evening.
