Shared at at the Tree House bottle share back in December. Reviewed from my notes.

Nice creamy head, dark molasses brown color

Nose light bourbon and vanilla oak, maple cream, rye malt?, dark caramel malt, faint hint of Brett funk, quite nice at least the nose anyways.

Taste dirt, soil, earthy, blech! but I do get light maple, hint tart rye, light bourbon barrel, faint Brett funk perhaps, but so much dirt flavor just almost undrinkably bad.

Mouth is a little slimy, med bodied, very little carb.

Overall it seemed like it would be a great beer, then just died, so much of that dirt flavor.

A - Poured into a Tree House glass a clear mahogany hue with a thin, thin khaki head that fades to leave a light halo.

S - Aroma is pretty nice. Bourbon, light fruits, faint faint brett notes.

T - Yeah, this is almost, almost undrinkable. Tastes like dirt. Legitimately tastes like a mouthful of dirt. No other flavors, just ground. My years of Geology have engrained what old topsoil tastes like and this strikes that note expertly.

M - Mouthfeel is, ehh, mostly flat. Sits thin in the mouth with very very little carbonation.

O - Overall, I don't know what to make of this beer. The aroma was so promising and to have it taste like that is heart breaking. Oh well...

 

 

 

 

 

Barrel aged unrepentant pours a flat black into into the glass with a small tan head on tap. The foam fades quickly to a thin ring around the surface leaving behind a few spots of lace on the glass.

The aroma is oaky with notes of vanilla and toffee mixed in.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is oily with barely any carbonation. The flavor is oakey blended with chocolate, toffee, caramel and piney hops. Once gone the oak and pine linger on the palate.

A tasty, easy drinking drinking beer. Very tasty with a light body.

500mL brown glass pry-top mini-champagne bottle purchased at Hunger Mountain Coop last month. No date. Label reads "Stout Beer, Hand Bottled, Unpasteurized" (sic). Part of the "Cellarman's Series."

Pours a thick, viscous black with dollops of thick, creamy tan head that leaves lots of spotting. Nose is dominated by bourbon soaked wood. Toffee, coffee, vanilla, toasted oak, molasses, all of that. Body is a lot thinner than I was expecting. Creamy carbonation helps to round it out and keep it from being lean or boozy. It's under 8% so no alcohol presence to speak of. Flavors of roasted coffee beans steeping in fresh cream, toffee, mellow bourbon, white smoke, and cafe au lait/cappuccino. Long, evolving finish and it's moderately dry...well balanced really.

Notes: This was a lot better than I was expecting given the bottled Saison wasn't worth the cash. This one is for sure.
