Though on their website, they claim this beer is 4.0%, yet the bottle label displays 4.4% ABV. I've claimed the label's beer in adding the beer, asserting that the website is likely out of date. I acquired this beer at the beer specialty (laden) shoppe in Berlin, Germany. Poured into a snifter in North Berlin, Germany. Reviewed live.
A: Pours a half finger tan head of nice cream, good thickness, and rather laughably poor 10 second retention. In fairness, this was poured into a snifter, but come on now. Non-transparent black colour.
Sm: Extremely light scent; all me broken nose can make out is malt and caramel. Not a great combination in my book.
T: Hoppy body with tones of caramel and especially unexpected light esters over top a barley foundation. Where did those esters come from? The malt is caramel-tamed, and thus nicely handled. The climax is especially nice, which is how it ought to be. The finish is so concealed by the sharp mouthfeel that it's hard to recognize the dying caramel/malt. Balanced well but built with too much caramel and a far too faux-cream wet finish. Bleh.
Mf: A very sharp coarse climax intrudes on the finish. All in all, it's too sharp. Quite wet throughout, but short of refreshing, which is disappointing.
Dr: Ass-cheap in Berlin, Germany, though the ABV isn't quite high enough to warrant it a proper session/getting absolutely pissed beverage. Look elsewhere for brews in the style. Serve cold.
