Draught @ Headkeeper: This one poured a clear, dark copper color. There was very little of an off white head that left some lacing. It has a good nose. Peaty and smokey malts, with a little sweetness. Taste is very good. Smokey and peat notes. Lots of malts, but almost no sweetness. Nice.

Starts with a multi pour head. Leaves a solid line lace. Almost a blanket. Light brown color where light passes easily through the center of the glass.
The smell is like dark toast. Bready but with a touch of berry in the background.
Deep malt flavor with a kick of alcohol, particularly in the swallow. More bitterness than most Scotch Ales. The swallow has a bite that reminds me licorice and oregano.

Came to the table in a standard pint glass a rich amber/brown with a thinner but well sustained off white head atop.Caramel and sweet biscuit aromas with some alcohol dipped dark fruit as well.Caramel dough with dark fruit flavors,a fuller feel makes it right for the style, alot of caramel going on.

An okay beer but didn't strike me as being great, although I usually love Scottish ales.

Pours a rich brown color with an off white head that fades to a ring. The aroma has sweet caramel like malt presence and a bit of herbal and alcohol.
In the taste, toasty and richly malty of course. Has big toffee and caramel but also has a spicy herbal element, like sage and rosemary coupled with faint bitterness and alcohol flavor. Sweetness is cut by earthy flavors, but still has a solid place in the profile.
Full bodied, well carbonated ale. Overall, I would say this is a fair representation of the style with some unusual ingredients making it interesting. Not your everyday scotch ale, but a worthwhile drinking experience.

Poured out a murky orange-brown. The head was rusty egg-shell that gave way to slight lacing. The rest of the beer in my half growler was super sudsy after the pour, almost making me think there was soap in there. The smell was complex but faint, with a healthy dose of alcohol and molasses. The taste was super complex and loaded with astringent whiskey and blossoming molasses and rich malt. The mouthfeel is lots of carbonation and heavy. Overall, I was a bit confused, because the salesperson said this was a brown ale, so I wasn't expecting the whiskey robustness and scottish power that I received on first sip. A very complex brew that was most likely brewed in bourbon barrels and aged somewhat.

On tap at Ojai Beverage Company in Ojai, CA.
Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, caramel, nut, fruit, and slight smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid malt and caramel qualities all around.
Serving type: on tap.
