Also known as (aka) Fat Bavarian. Takes a bit of chutzpa to take a hefeweizen to a harvest hop festival (Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild @ Sierra Nevada in Chico, CA), but here we are.

Strangely enough, this hefeweizen offered more clarity than your average beer at the festival. Fast forward to the present day gloop glop trub bomb, this hefeweizen looks downright like a west coast ipa in comparison. But is that a good thing? After recently having Live Oak's hefeweizen, I would say no, clarity in a hefeweizen, even a single hop one, is meh at best. The aroma brought the clove. No thank you. Banana behind that.

Taste was doable, it wasn't the most pungent transition of the yeast from aroma to taste, which was for the better. Mouth feel was bouyed throughout by a heavy handed carbonation level. Hay, grass and banana seem to be the biggest taste characteristics. The clove is still there, but not as heavy as in the nose. I dunno, maybe this worked out and there was a bunch of people looking for a hefeweizen at a hop harvest festival. Otherwise seemed out of place.

I think this is beer also known as the Fat Bavarian Ale. I purchased a growler of it and consumed it myself (sigh).

A: Hazy straw/yellow color with active carbonation and frothy head. The head recedes into a moderate ring and leaves lacing down the glass.

S: Bananas, straw, and cloves. A simple, but crisp and refreshing smell.

T: Exactly follows the nose. A strong blend of banana yeasty sweetness and straw, with hints of spices toward the end of the taste, just before a crisp finish. An absolutely straightforward, refreshing taste. No alcohol detected.

M: On the thin side of medium-bodied, with active carbonation that works well for the style.

D: Evidently very high, as I managed to finish 4 pints by myself without feeling the least bit sick (although I did feel guilty).

Slightly hazy pour with a small whitish head. Standard strong clove hefeweizen smell and taste. Ok, but not great. One of the rare times I squeezed the lemon in it to cut the annoying spiced taste. Just like every other hefeweizen you've ever had. boring and doesn't separate itself from the pack.
