Two twelve ounce cans were emptied entirely into a clear glass liter mug. Standard ale pours produced a modest short-lived off-white head on top of a bright and lightly amber colored liquid that's nearly translucent. There's some pininess to the hops and some earthiness to the malt within the aroma. Alcohol is also present. It doesn't differ much in its taste. Not that either flavor component is rich, but it brings to the tongue a pleasant piney hop flavor balanced by an earthily malty one. Neither can prevent the high ABV from being unfavorably noticed, but that's not critical to the overall, nor unexpected after looking at the label. The glass lacing is sparse, common for high ABV ales. The mouthfeel is far too light to carry the hops and alcohol. This is just about what you'd expect from an IPA which emphasizes a 9% ABV. Its intention is not to have the drinker savor the brewing nuances, but it is a relatively agreeable way to get a quick beer buzz.

21st Amendment Brewery "Tall Hat"
19.2 fl. oz. can coded "3483SE 124 WHO'S HAT". Sampled on 4 February 2025
$3.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a very hazy golden-orange body beneath a finger's width of big bubbled white foam. The aroma offers bready malt, alcohol, and some resinous and citrusy hops. On to the taste... it remains very much the same. The malt is rich, the alcohol remains, and the hops are resinous, herbal, and fruity. I'm getting orange, nectarine, apple, and pink grapefruit. It reminds me of one of the Sierra Nevada beers that I just had a few days ago but I can't recall the name... ... ... ah, yes, it's also an Imperial IPA, and it's called Hop Bullet. Anyway, there's a little bit of berry in here as well, and the herbal and resinous side is piney, "dank", a touch minty and oregano-like, and a little bit earthy. It's solidly bitter but there's also a whole lot of malt sweetness that it's got to fight against. It still finishes mostly dry with pine and earth lingering. In the mouth it's full bodied and crisp. It's not the most balanced Imperial IPA that I've ever had, and the alcohol is a little bit clearer than I'm used to even at 9% ABV. On a positive note, even with a higher alcohol content the head retention was quite good and it left some creamy walls of lacing behind. I'd certainly drink this again but I doubt I'd reach for it if there were a variety of other Imperial IPAs available.

Tall Hat has a thick, white head of foam and a hazy, orange-gold appearance, with lots of lacing. The aroma is of fruity hops and white bread. The flavor is of that, with sweetness and fairly low bitterness. Tall Hat has a high-medium body and a mostly-dry finish.

Bought at the brewer, where I had a salad at the bar and really enjoyed the vibe. Recommended.
However bought this can which was a nice strong IPA for my hotel room to watch NCAA finals, but it was so-so.
a) Clear medium golden with lots of froth and lace.
s) Malt - citrus - pine - bitter - typical. Good but not special.
t) Adds some floral, medicine cabinet notes.
o) STRONG, without adequate redemption, but mid-pack.

19.2oz can from Albertsons. Dark golden pour, mild haze, one finger foamy white head. Aroma is pineapple and grapefruit, candy like. Goes downhill from there, taste gets metallic, like a penny. Dry too. A little latent warmth, but overall not too good. It's been a while since I've had anything from 21st Amendment. Looks like it will be another while before I try them again.

Poured from 19.2oz stovepipe can into a dimpled mug. Hard to tell exactly but the date stamp appears to be November 2023.

Appearance: medium golden-orange hue with a light haze and two big fingers of frothy ivory foam.

Smell: sweet malt with some citrus, lemongrass, and slightly floral notes. Not too bad; a pretty typical old-school WCIPA kind of aroma.

Taste: malt is definitely on the syrupy-sweet side, with some booze coming through as well from the 9%. The hops are lemongrassy, a bit herbal, and just a bit musty. It’s not the worst thing out there but it’s not doing a ton for me.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess for the style.

Overall: it’s a 9% stovepipe DIPA, not exactly my favorite trend out there. But you gotta try everything, you know? This one is pretty meh — you could certainly do worse, but even in the format there’s better stuff out there.

Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a 1F head and light lacing.

Smells of slightly dank grassy hops with some citrus.

Tastes of malt , slightly tart grapefruit and orange with a moderately bitter, boozy warm finish.

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Dry mouthfeel.

A lot of breweries are putting out reasonably drinkable , good bang-for-the-buck tall boy beers. This is one of those.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a small head of white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time and leaving a bit of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strong of a bready and doughy smell mixed with tropical fruit aromas of tropical fruits of tangerine, mango, pineapple, and papaya. At the same time there is a decent showing of grapefruit and earthy hops. Other light grain smells and a touch of kiwi and toast are mixed in there as well.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready malt flavor mixed with some of the fruit that was in the nose, particularly the tangerine and papaya. There is a rather decent showing of grapefruit and some herb as well as a touch of caramel. As the taste advances the fruit dries out a little while the hop gets more intense. The malt gets stronger as well, and with a tiny touch of alcohol, one is left with a slightly more malty, west coast style, citrusy taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a higher carbonation level. Good for the style and for the abv, as it balanced the fruity and citrus flavors with the higher abv rather well.
Overall – A rather nice brew overall. Nothing too over the top, drinkable and flavorful.
