Poured into a Gavroche tulip Pours a moderately hazy, medium to dark orange-gold with a thin film of bubbles that persists, but does not appear to renew; no lacing. Aroma of saison yeast, grainy malt, orange citrus and faint light stone fruit, grassy hops and phenols. Flavor of saison yeast, grainy malt, medicinal phenols, orange and grapefruit citrus and grassy hops. Astringent hop bitterness and phenolic notes in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and a low, but adequate carbonation. I was looking forward to seeing what Dany would do with a hopped saison. It did not work out as well as it could. The base saison is low in malt depth leaving some of the flavors a bit stark on the palette. The initial taste is a low complexity saison with moslty orange citrus, then some Continental hops kick in with a little funk and slight tartness; more hops and lingering hop bitterness and phenols in the finish. There is an unfortunate interaction between the phenols and the bitterness leaving an medicinal astringency. Interesting, but not as enjoyable as past offerings.
