Coming in a slim 500ml brown bottle, BB 09/08 - consumed two months past the expiry date, served chilled in Gaffel's 200ml stange. The strength is 4.8%abv. by the way.

A: pours a dark straw hue with a fast-dissipating white foamy head and lively carbonation consisting of mainly large bubbles.
S: semi-sweet grains on top of a lightly sour-sweet fruity touch, a hint of hays, and a somewhat plastic edge of maybe hop extract? Why is it so timid and unexciting - not fresh?
T: the weak foretaste of a slightly sweet grainy touch is followed by a timid presence of mildly spicy-floral hoppiness and maybe a touch of fruitiness that usually is much more pronounced in a Kölsch. Slightly powdery (sign of hop extract I presume?), plastic and spicy in a weak bitter finish.
M&D: the mouthfeel is sprizty to the brink of overly fizzy, not smooth but still refreshing. The overall flavour profile is unbalanced and really timid, no better than the tap version tasted three years ago. In fact, the issue with the expiry date might have contributed to the dismal performance, but I don't know whether I'll try this again.

Now, this Koelsch is a little strange. It's not bad, I actually have a special place for it in my heart, but it's aftertaste is just plain strange. Try it and you'll know what I mean.
Having said that, it has a pleasant grainy quality to it and would be unoffensive and very drinkable were it not for the aftertaste. Yeah, an all right beer, but, come on, I was living in Koeln at the time, you think I'm gonna choose to drink this over a more quality Koelsch? You've got to be kidding me.

Simply put, this is a very weak offering that tends to have very few poor representations in Koln.

Kuppers has a color much like that of Natty light--Straw colored, clear, and fizzy. Its aroma has notes of a delicate floral aroma but is dominated by the stench of adjuncts. Flavor is bland and weak. Not really all that much to speak of besides its extremely bland and dry aftertaste. Mouthfeel is more like soda pop than a Kolsch beer. Dont waste your time or sobriety on this beer if ever in Koln.
