It takes a brave beer to stand up to a Maine winter. Gritty McDuff 's Scottish Ale is returns every January to help you weather the season. Scottish Style Ale is our interpretation of the robust brews native to Scotland. Generous quantities of Pale malt along with Munich and Caramalts give this ale a deep and complex profile. Scottish Style Ale is just a shade darker than our Bitter, with a rich, slightly sweet first impression on the palate that rounds out to a satisfying maltiness and a medium-dry hop finish. At 6.3% ABV it's hearty but not overwhelming. Sure to please the Braveheart in all of us.

12 oz. bottle poured into a becker.
Appearance: Pours a dark amber cherry color with a two-finger cream head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma: Sweet malts, a little wood, some faint smoke. Some dark fruit.
Taste: Something's a little off here. It's kind of buttery and medicinal. Not as much smoke as you'd expect from a Scottish ale.
Mouthfeel: Pretty standard medium depth.
Overall: Slightly flawed brew. Not a drainpour, but not one to go back to.

Probably one of the worst scotch ales I've ever had. Not nearly as strong in flavor like some of the best.

Best before Dec. 2014. Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Tree House tulip.
a: Clear copper with an inch thick offwhite head which receded to thin even surface foam and very little lacing.
s: Dark malt with dark fruit notes.
t: Bready caramel malt with some mildly sharp hop balance and some underlying plumlike flavor. Bitterness lingers somewhat on the tongue, but mainly a sweet to dry finish.
m; Light to medium with good body. Considerable carbonation tingle.
o: A good representation of the style, which I was just reading about in All About Beer magazine. Might have a fuller body, but certainly has some good malt flavor with a dark fruit tinge.
