05/09/07- Had on tap at Bitter Root Brewing in Hamilton, MT.
Presentation- From the tap into two 4oz samplers.
Appearance- Deep black in color, opaque. 1/4 inch head, most of which remains for the haul. Traces of lace left behind.
Smell- Dark and semi-burnt malts mixed with a shot of bourbon and some nice dark chocolate.
Taste- More bourbon than chocolate in the taste. Malt is not quite as burnt as in the nose. Rolls together nicely though. Oak flavors are included as well. Very lightly hopped. Just a touch on the thin side.
Mouthfeel- Super smooth, lightly creamy with a very low carbonation level.
Drinkability- Just a bit more abv would have made this one a real winner, but the Montana abv law prohibits anything above 7.4 I believe. Still a very quality stout that I almost brought back a growler of.
