Every brewpub has to have a signature beer, this could be the one for The Library. Dark and smoky, bitter and biting, black as engine oil and just as slick. Hints of dark chocolate and espresso. A sipper for sure.

Had this at the brewpub poured black with a tan head. i has good lacing.
The aroma is great, of roasted barley, coffee, and nutty chocolate.
The taste matches the aroma. It starts with a sweet chocolate malty taste with a lingering roasted coffee taste that lingers, a little long for my taste but if you like coffee flavors your love this beer.

A - On-tap at the brewpub, pours pitch black with a thin, dark tan head; leaves solid lacing. Slight cling of beer to the sides of glass, which is a good sign for stouts.
S - Nice aromas of fresh coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted barley.
T - More coffee and dark chocolate, roasted barley, slight acidic note, and a solid dry finish with a lingering coffee and hop/roasted barley bitterness. Overall, pleasantly smoky, chewy, and robust.
M - Rich, creamy and smooth. Carbonation on the light side of moderate.
D - I could drink this all the time, and I frequently have a growler of it in my fridge.
Originally reviewed 08-14-2008. This is still the best local brew, hands down. An astoundingly good dry stout to find in this part of the country.

Many fond evenings at Michigan Tech were centered around this beer. It pours dark black with a brown head. It smells and tastes like a handful of freshly roasted barley. Coffee and chocolate abound. Truly satisfying not just to the tongue, but to the whole mouth.

Originally reviewed March 23, 2005. On tap at the brewpub. Deep black tar pour with a deep rich frothy brown head, slightly diminished. Rich meaty savory aromas. EXTREMELY toasty flavors full of coffee, chocolate, burnt cherries and sweet pipe tobacco. Finishes dry, but smooth with a touch of hazlenuts. An extremely rich and astounding brew.
