Originally reviewed November 17, 2006. On tap at the brewpub. Lucious ruby cherry fruit aroma, with almost some bourbon barrel character, real rich and refined, a hint of chocolate liquor, light notes of coffee. Pour of pitch black, with a currant gleam and a frothy, sweet cream head. Flavor is a touch thinner than I expect, yet nicely dry and yet still full bodied. Redolent with roasted oatmeal, bright coffee roast without the acidity and a background of distant charred dark fruits. Hop character minimal, yet roasted dryness and quality attentuation bring balance to this one. Very nice.
