Golden orange in color with a nice thick 1+" head. Nice thick lacing developed. Large carbonation bubbles stick to the sides of the glass. The aroma is very light as some malt is barely there to detect. The flavor is relatively dull and uninspiring, as the malt and bitterness levels are weak and there is a small citrus bite.

The mouthfeel was smooth at the start. The finish was slighty dry with a mild metallic finish. Drinkability is not very high as one would quickly become bored with this. Nice looking but dull on the tastebuds.

Served as part of a sampler tray at their brewery. This was one beer that I really didn’t like. I don’t know what an infected beer line would do to a beer, or how it would make it taste, but I suspect that this beer was infected some way or another. The beer was a golden amber without any head. Bright and clear. The aroma has a touch of butter caramel malts, but they were barely detectable. The taste is the problem – With the first sip I detected something like stale cardboard. Metallic and a bit tannic. There’s a bitter malt body along with something like vegetable oil. Seems unbalanced. Caramel malts and nuttiness can’t save this one. Lightly bodied and a tad watery, with an unpleasant bitter finish. Weak overall. I would pass on another one of these, but would try it again in the future, just to see if this really was an infected batch.

Probably the best brew I had from here, poured a nice deep copper/red color with medium head, smell was quite malty and sweet of caramel.Taste was pretty balanced with some sweet caramel malt with nice dry finish, pretty well done and quite drinkable would get again.

The Regiment Pale Ale is done in the English style, and is one of Valley Forge's 4 regular beers. Its clear, deep reddish-copper body is topped by a creamy white head that holds well before dropping to a good collar. It leaves some nice lace throughout the first quarter of the pint. The aroma is limited but displays some caramelish malt tempered by an indistinguishable variety of low-level hops. It's firmly malty, medium body is accentuated by a very fine, restrained carbonation that leaves it smooth and creamy across the tongue. As is the case with most English ales, this needs to warm a bit to really be enjoyed - softening the rich malt and bitterness. At that point it displays deep caramel notes in the malt, a floral/grassy hop flavor, and a brash bitterness. The finish is long and dry, teetering between residual sweet malt and long standing bitterness. Quite an impressively assertive beer for a brewpub standard! I'd love to try this cask-conditioned on handpump!

Solid copper color, completely clear. White medium foamy head. Smell is sweet and a bit spicy,

Taste is smooth and medium rich, mostly clean lighter malt up front followed by a nice tart hop bitterness that carries through to the finish.

A well crafted brew. Very true to style, but with an unmistakable touch of American character.
