330ml bottle purchased on 9/20/14 at the Keyaki Hiroba Beer Festival in Saitama, Japan. 5.5% ABV.
The aroma is crisp and zesty with pine and orange; a caramel-like malty sweetness is minimally perceptible. The body is dark amber and slightly hazy; the light tan head is thick and frothy. Some soft, cookie-like malt comes through first in the flavor, soon followed by some mildly bitter hops with a resin and orange rind character. Earthy, bread crust-like malt lingers in the finish. The body is in the mid-range with restrained carbonation but a good carbonic bite.
Very tasty and drinkable overall, with pronounced and consistent hop and malt qualities. The hop flavors are more prominent than the malt, while the latter merely provide some roundness to the flavor such that the bitter hops don't completely dominate. Definitely one of my favorites from the brewery, along with their pale ale.

Appearance: Peachy sunset brown with an utterly pathetic head that barely forms and then quickly runs away.
Smell: Grape juice, citric-herbal (rosemary?) hops, roasted nuts, and a very subtle touch of diacetyl... but mostly grape juice.
Taste: Surprisingly robust and round, with a fruity-toasty-nutty malt foundation that contrasts sweet notes of berries, grapes, peanuts, and sourdough bread with a sharp, peppery and pithy hop bitterness. Remarkably "aromatic," if that makes sense. Finish is like a guillotine of hops coming down on the malt sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and slick yet very crisp, well-suited to the sweet-then-sharp flavor.
Drinkability: Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Not much to look at or to inhale, but very pleasant to quaff. Well-balanced and winsome.

Nice bright chestnut ruddy-brown, not quite clear. It foamed up heavily when I popped the gap, and produced a nice thick off-white head, but it fell very quickly.
Woody, floral hops, with a bit of sweet fruitiness. I get a touch of bubbblegum, which puts me off a bit, but overall the aroma is good.
Wah. Funky. Off? Maybe not. I gave it a bunch of time to sit and breath between the initial impression and now. It's still a bit stale, with a strange harsh undercurrent, but it's mellowed into a decent ale. It's quite bitter, but reasonably well balanced.
Well, it's not great, but then again it might be a bit off. I'll probably give it another chance, because there is a fair bit of promise here.
