a good beer, for this style. Meets my "tastes like beer" standard. A nice pilsner, with just a little less bite than I'd like, that would make it even better. Goes down easy, with a nice finish/aftertaste. Unfortunately it is no longer made.
This was a good example of what a good pilsner can be. A nice beer to drink by itself, or with food.

It's baaa..aaaack!

The varietal pils at the General with Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, German pilsen malt, and a lager yeast.

It pours a cloudy peach with light grassy scents.

First swigs: This BIG pilsner has an immediate front of astringent dryness and a (pardon the poetic license) reminds me of chalky orange children's aspirin. Bold brisk leafy pils that demands to be recognized. This is not your grandfather's Jever. Or maybe it is and that is what acentuates the harm.

Last swigs: Some people will say that this has a metallic palate, but it is lean and bold with a gradual linger of leafy tart hoppiness. Get thee to the General and try this curious brew!!!

Its clear, deep golden body is topped by a short head of bright white foam that holds well before dropping to a thin collar but leaves little more than spotty lace. The nose displays bold and bright, grassy and floral hops over a sweetish and hay-like grainy malt. Its medium bodied and crisp in the mouth with a very fine, standard-level carbonation. The flavor is quite hoppy and bitter (38 IBU's listed) with sweetish grainy malt (from a double decoction) acting as its base. An uber pils!!! It's floral without being perfumey; and its bitterness is bold but not overwhelming. It finishes bone dry, but without excessive lingering bitterness. A full throttle pils that burns up the track, but is balanced enough to go to the winners circle instead of blowing the engine!
