A: Pours from growler an orange color with slight haze and a creamy light tan head that settles slowly.

S: Bready malts and some toffee, with a orange peel and herbal hop character that seems very fresh.

T: Bitter and sweet. Malt has a good firm hold on this beer with a bready, biscuity taste and some honey as well. Fresh Pacific Northwest hops ad orange and herbal flavors that balance out really well. Alcohol remains hidden.

M: Medium body and smooth creamy carbonation.

D: Very refreshing and easy to drink this beer. It was shared eagerly but easy to keep in hand. A well made balanced Pale Ale.

Ok so this was my first try at a General lafayette beer. I like IPA's and this was the closest thng they had. I have to say that the bitterness comes through great on this beer! It's not a knock your socks off IPA, but for a pale ale it has a great balance between the malt and hops. I definite must have when you visit!

A - A rusted orange color... Trace amounts of slow paced carbonation throughout... Some faint clinginess on the sides of the glass...

S - Earthy... Hops... Citrus... Pale Malts...

T - A distinctive piney hop presence dominates and while very strong, isn't completely overpowering... Malt comes in the form of cracker and ever so faint caramel... Some leathery and floral notes as well...

M - Light to medium bodied... Assertive... Pringly carbonation... A bitter hop pucker at finish... Hard to belive this only registers in the mid-30s in terms of IBUs.... Ever so slightly on the dry side...

D - Another winner by the General... I can't believe I've been drinking this for close to a decade and have never reviewed it yet... An easy drinking, yet unique, representation of a style that is too often brewed without any distinction or nuance...

A- pours a light orangish yellow with a lot of head (cask pour), good lacing
S- lots of floral hops , a little spicy, fresh malt, citrus
T- very smooth, coming off of the cask you could really taste the hops, a little flowery, a tad spicy, nice smooth bitter finish
M- really nice, a bit warm even for a cask but I still dug it
D- very good, a very low abv means good grounds for a session beer

cool place, had it at the general . good food, good beer, all in house beers on tap this time (might be everytime tho)

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a hazy amber color and a modest head that drops quickly but leaves a few dots of lace

Smell: Grainy and toasty

Taste: Opens with a grainy and bitter piney element and closes the same way

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Described as a west coast pale ale but lacks the fruity element of those brews; more of a middle of the road pale ale

This is an American-style pale ale. This is a typical dry, hoppy ale. Hops are from the Pacific Northwest, bringing the citrusey flavour to the edge. I detect a slight malty finish to balance out the strong hoppy, flowery taste. This is the General's most popular brew, so to try a pint would be worthy!

Pours a golden amber with thin oily layer of off-white head, great lacing. Smells of citrus, grass, honey, and caramel. Tastes of floral hops with a honey and grain backbone, dry bitter finish with a lemon sweetness. Medium light in body with good carbonation, sweet and flowery with a bitter crisp finish. Refreshing, easy to drink, a very enjoyable pale ale with good solid flavors.

A: Poured a golden-orange color with a thin white head.

S: a light citrus aroma, fresh grains. Nose was fairly light and clean.

T: The beer starts off lightly hopped per style, with subtle dry floral and citrus tones against a pale malt backbone. There was light grapefruit hints as well. Decent floral and bitterness from hops but nothing that hasn't been done many times over.

M: crisp, with a moderate body, light carbonation, and a dry finish.

D: Drinkable non offending session for those not to serious about their hops. Overall just ordinary.

Pours a cloudy orange. Cream head. Piney hops on the nose. Flavor has a nice even hoppy profile. Earthy and bitter, but nowhere near overpowering. Feel has an attacking carbonation and a nice liquid body.Very nice. Thick character with a great earthy and grassy profile.

This a tasty, hoppy pale ale, but it falls a little flat on the tongue. It's just not crisp like the great APA. I guess if you want a smoother ale with plenty of hops flavor, this is a good beer, but I just don't know. Yes, the hops are nice, with big oily fruit flavors. I suspect this beer might be better on cask and it's definitely good enough to try again.

Cask Conditioned Pacific Pale Ale served at cellar temperature at the General.

It just looks good, You could almost just know its going to be a great beer.

In the glass is looks very hazy, with a straw color, looks very much like a hefeweizen.

Taste is of strong hops, and of quality strength. The malt does a great job of balancing but knows it's the second fiddle to those great tasting hops.

It also does a good job of not tasting like an IPA, this is a solid Pale Ale and fits the style of the West Coast Pale Ale. I just wish they would fill a growler of their cask stuff, but oh well.

Served as a pale orange-collored beer with moderate white puffy head. Smell is dominated by piney hops and is very tantalizing. Taste follows through on the smell with a strong hop taste and a mild maltiness in the background. This is a beer for hop lovers. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

This beer came a simple foggy amber with a half finger of creamy tan that had a sandy texture and it left some nice lace.

Smells of red grapefruit, dry light rice and a rye bread dryness.

Tasted light and sweet like strawberries that fades into a red grapefruit with a creamy light white bread dough. The grapefruit here is really awesome.

The mouth feel is light to medium bodied and creamy smooth. Works well with the flavors.

Wow! I could easily drink this one all night long.

I bought a growler of this and have really enjoyed it. It's hoppy and very fragrant, with floral scents and a dark copper color. Nicely carbonated. The hops are strong, but it is the floral flavor to the beer coupled with the hops that really makes for interesting flavors. I can't place what else is present in the beer, but you can smell the floral aspects of the beer, and I think that may mask some of the other aspects of the beer. It's strong, but easy to drink. It is a great example of an american pale ale and one I like very much.

A great example of an American Pale Ale - hopped just enough to let you know it means business, it doesn't employee hops for the sake of it. Very floral nose, worth a few extra takes and halfway through you get a few variations. Mouthfeel is strong, but again not over done just to shock - everything seems to be there for a reason. Halfway done you start getting just a little spice, maybe cinnamon? The floral comes in strong also as you make your way through this pint. Head was nice and hung in for the whole trip - not always the case with many APAs. After taste is just strong enough to remember where you've been - leaves you wanting a refill!

This beer I had the other day at the Gen. Lafayette. It's a good thing I was eating food because I realized halfway through the glass that I was already pretty buzzed. This is a good hoppy beer. It seems to be very similar to a west coast ale. The hops were about as fragrant as other typical American pale ales are, nothing really notable stuck out to me in terms of scent. The best thing about this beer besides the yummy hoppiness was the proper amount of fizziness and substantial head. There was a lot of lace left on my glass. It tasted very fresh and looked to be a gold color but I couldn't exactly tell because it is so dark inside the GL. I would've sat there and drank about 4-5 more pints of it, but I had to meet a friend.

Served through their "hop infuser" ***coughcoughrandallcoughcough***, and titled on tap this day as "Canseco Pale Ale" (pale ale on steroids).

Pours a hazed out polished bright brass and gold. Sticky head keeps a half inch capper on the whole deal.. Pretty.

Smell is bright big hops -- POW! -- very odd for a GLI brew, but very welcome. Apparently all Cascade, but I sensed a little Palisade-ish thing going on here and there. Who knows. Very nice.

Taste lets the hops come to roost...very clean, sharply bitter lemon, orange, and rock candy. Unfortunately, this means that the malt profile gets blown clear out of the water. You know it's there, but you have to search for it, as it's barely holding its own.

Mouthfeel is a bit low, a bit thin. I do however like the tooth-sticking hoppiness (classic calling card for a Randallized brew), so that brings the number up again.

Drinkability is good, but one is enough for me. Great to see the GLI stretching its stylistic muscles, however.

Appears a dark gold with a nice fluffy off white head that sticks around. Nice lacing also seems to cling and not want to drop.
Smell is of citrusy hops that meet up with some solid bready malt.
Taste was better than anticipated with a balanced attack of malt, grapefruit and a delicious sweetness.
Mouthfeel is really nice. 'Balanced' is what this beer is all about.

Finger licking good.

Hoppy floral aroma. Dark yellow, with lace in glass. Quaffable, 35 IBU. Not too bitter, some corriander, other spice, spot of fruit. Balanced British style, but thin mouthfeel, watery aftertaste. Average brew, under average Pale, quaffable, on to bolder blends.

Tried the Pale which is a constant staple at the GLI, but as a cask. Wha a surprise of delight. Poured with a big ole foamy cap over a golden clear offering.

Subdued scents, perhaps from the froth cap.

Flavor palate was as good as any. A bit fruity with orange and peach notes followed by a cake like malty backing. Enjoyable all the way.

Cask conditioned mouthfeel is too easy to say great. But worth props.

These could go back all night without a flinch. Only problemo? $5 ea. but worth every penny.

Beer is good. Happy beering.
