This beer, served in a curvaceous weizen glass, was a honey, apricot color that when held to the light looks like a dull apple cider. I really liked how the yeasty cloudiness was not too murky, and not to thin. Well done. The fluffy ½ inch of white head was a nice addition too. Seemed a bit sticky for the style, but was nice enough.
Smells of a creamy, doughy wheat, concentrated orange juice and a hint of sweet molasses. Theres also a crisp lemon rind to balance things out. No hops detected yet. Very solid.
Tastes of sweet O.J. with a dinner roll dryness, lemon zest and wheat bread crusts. It then smoothly transitions over to a dry pine and grapefruit hoppiness. The way these citrus elements change from Bavaria to Pacific North West is clever and down right tasty. Finishes a little pungently dry, but in a good way. Im writing this review a half hour after my drink at the General, and my mouth still feels a little dry, but again, not in a bad way.
Feels dense but clean and slick with a dry finish. I liked how present the heaviness of this beer was but how clean it left my mouth.
Creative and a great hybrid invention. Clean and refreshing for the summer indeed.
