Served on tap at the General Lafayette Inn. This is a lambic featuring five different berries with strawberry being the dominant one.
A: The ale is a light color, full in its pinkness. A thin white head, loaded with dense bubbles, is quick to recede.
S: The aroma is that of strawberry jam, loaded with luscious berries. A faint tartness is evident, content to linger below the fruit.
T: The berries are restrained (relative to the nose) but they still pack a sugary sweet punch. Strawberry dominates but the other berries manage to peak through. The barrel aging has imparted a pleasant funkiness, more tart than barnyard. An enjoyable beer that goes down way too fast.
M: Strawberry is a flavor that rarely works with beer (save for my fond memories of Pete's Strawberry Blonde), but here the sugary sweetness sits nicely atop the acidic bite.
D: The abv comes across as very low, in line with many of the General's other world-class offerings. This is a must-try for all lambic lovers.
