Although it's labeled a stout, this is probably more of a Baltic porter. It's not quite strong enough, roasty enough, or bitter enough to be an Imperial stout - but just about! Black in color with glimpses of mahogany at the edges. The creamy light brown head drops readily to a thin collar. The body is medium with a mild carbonation that leaves it oily and silky smooth in the mouth. Very English! The poor head retention is a little more acceptable when you consider this, and the fact that it's got an alcohol content of 6%. The aroma is bold and inviting. Richly fruity (fresh berries) above a caramel and chocolate maltiness. The flavor starts fruity with a light tang, becomes massively chocolatey with an espresso-like roastiness (so much more than mocha), and gently sweet. The bitterness is roused in the finish and it becomes bone dry. Satisfying and refreshing. Surprisingly complex. Extremely enjoyable in it's wide range of flavors. Exceptional.
