First brewed to celebrate the 500th guest beer at the Dartmouth Inn, Newton Abbot, and was named by a customer in a competition. It went down so well that it has become a regular beer.
This enigmatic full bodied beer with malty hoppy fruit bitter with a sweet taste which all vie for dominance in this complex and well crafted premium chestnut coloured ale.

July 2007: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.0%. Beautiful deep amber colour, large off-white head, leaves a nice lacing. Sweetish aroma with plenty of malts, notes of caramel, bakery and raisins. The flavour is very rich and malty, but also fruity with well balanced hops. Not too sweet. Hoppy aftertaste. A first class premium bitter in my book.

Clear copper color with a one finger head with medium retention.
Aroma of caramels, biscuit malt and a mild citrusy.
Flavor of sweet caramel, biscuit and toasted malts, plums and figs, English tangy hops, herbal hint and finishing with a mild coffee note. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with low carbonation with lively tiny bubbles and a smooth feeling.
Good bitter that stands out with its own character, bolder dark fruits with a hidden coffee. Worth trying, especially if you like British Ales.

A - Pours a clear copper with a finger of tight off-white head. This drops to a thin cap. Low carbonation.
S - Citrus, floral hops, slight liquorice, sweet light fruits.
T - Flavours slowly seep through, with sweet fruits coming out first (mostly cherry). After a floral middle the fruits become slightly bitter. Finish is mildly bitter and aftertaste is vanilla/caramel.
M - Medium body and very low carbonation.
D - It's OK, but certainly not one of RCH's better offerings. Doesn't appear to be bottle-conditioned like some of their other beers, so maybe that might be part of the issue.

Pours a mid copper colour with a nice creamy off-white head, that leaves rings of lacing down the glass.
Hoppy and malty aroma, citrussy hints and a doughy caramel finish.
Taste is malty, citrussy and biscuity with a hoppy caramel aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, and it drinks really well.

Sampled at the Luton Beer Festival.
This ale poured a clear, iced-tea brown color with sudsy, tan foam. The smell was sweet and malty with some notes of caramel and grain. The taste was slightly sweet with a light fruitiness and a bit of caramel and a hint of chocolate. There was a mildly hoppy aftertaste. The mouthfeel was smooth and clean with medium body and low carbonation. It was dry overall with a mild lingering flavor. This was a nice ale.
