This is actually a really interesting and unique style from Czech Republic, called Polotmavý, which is like a cross between a hoppy Czech pilsner and amber lager/Märzen style.
Love the swing top bottles these come in. And it's even dated: 19-8-13, I'm guess best by since that's still a couple weeks from now.
After popping the top it rises up the neck at a moderate pace as if it's over carbonated, pours a big fluffy almost creamy 3 finger head that fades fairly slowly, leaves spotty lacing, hazy honey brown amber colored beer.
Nose is nice, nice toasty brown malts, light caramel syrup, a nougat like candy, light nutty toffee, with a light fruity interesting lager aroma, hints of grassy hops, a little baking bread and brown sugar, and hint of maple even. All those sweeteners and doesn't get that overly sweet aroma.
Taste stats with a typical Euro lager like fruity soft flavor with an earthy root like base brown malt, like extracted root syrup, more caramel brown sugar like but not too sweet, a bit of toffee too, and kills coffee syrup, and a bit of a fruity lager, and bit of a freshly baked raisin sweet bread. Mild grassy hops come through but get mild to fair bitterness. Finish is a bit sweeter, lingering baked sweet bread and candy syrup with rich if fruit raisin like flavor.
Mouth is med bod, slight syrupy, decent carb.
Overall pretty nice, quite unique and tasty, no flaws, and all the various flavors balance and blend well. I could drink lots if this.
