This is half of the 2011 batch and was only distributed in Duluth. This version used Galena hops and was aged on oak chips.

My reviews are not well written and I know this, but if you have the chance to try the Old Man Winter Warmer you wont regret it. Very drinkable and full bodied. I usually get a couple growlers of it when the boys are over.

This is the 2011 vintage which has two different variations. Only Duluth got this version which uses galena hops and was aged on oak chips. The other half of the 2011 vintage was the regular Old Man and all of that version went to the Twin Cities. This is all coming from the assistant brewer at Lake Superior. No way of telling by any of the packaging unfortunately.
Pours into a snifter a solid brown/amber color. The head is sublimely dense khaki foam with outstanding retention.
Lots of cereal notes in the nose. Light woody oak and candied fruit sweetness in there also.
Very english tasting like it should be for the style. Warm, but not hot with plenty of earthy hops and earthy malt. Decently bitter, but not overly so. Really drinkable like this. Subtle notes of oak that add hints of vanilla. Probably wouldn't have guessed it was aged on oak.
Very nice feel. Smooth, but not syrupy and sticky. Finishes dry and is close to full bodied and warm. Very supple carbonation feel.
I will have to do a side by side with the regular version to see how they compare. I do like this much better than the regular version I had back a couple of years ago. Looking forward to aging some of these to see how they turn out.
