Erie Brewing Co. "Haze Formation"
16 fl. oz. can coded "11/05/2021". Sampled on 02/14/22.
$4.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: A rough pour has brought up two finger's width of densely foamy and rocky bright white foam atop a hazy golden body. I prefer this, and to be honest I'm a little surprised it's so 'clear' given some of the murky "hazy" beers that I've been encountering lately. The head has now dropped to about a quarter of an inch and there's a craggy ring of lace around the glass where the head once stood. The aroma is brightly resinous and backed by tropical fruit. I'm finding orange, mango, and nectarine - ahh, and some white grape and a little bit of sweet berry as well. On to the taste then, no time to waste - it's fruitier than I expected it to be but the resinous and "dank" character remains and makes up a good portion of its overall character. It's got a fairly strong gooseberry note, some floral and spicy character, and the aforementioned orange, mango, berry, and nectarine although they're not as strong. A firm bitterness and spritz of alcohol balances it and it finishes dry, fruity, bitter, and earthy and resinous. It's an interesting mix of flavors throughout. The mouthfeel is perhaps a little on the lighter side for a hazy double IPA but it works. It's medium bodied and gently crisp-then-smooth. I wasn't thinking at first that this would score well but as I'm putting the numbers together it's coming out pretty high.

Hadn't had a beer from Erie in 10 years so I grabbed this when I saw it recently at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge. This was old, looked, old, and tasted old, but since it's Christmas and I need this label for my collection, I can live with that...
I can't remember the last time I saw a beer with so much sediment in it, but this had a ton of it floating around as it was a virtual lava lamp. Golden in hue, topped off with a frothy head, and plenty hazy, there wasn't a lot of lacing left behind as I worked my way through this as there were just a few hints of soapy rings near the middle of my pint glass. Tons of booze, nectarine, and white peach in the nose as the taste mostly followed suit. Dank hops, pine, and deep citrus pith rounded out the taste as this was full in body and had a subtle burn that held steady throughout my session.
Dated 5/19 on the bottom of the label, this didn't hold up as well as other beers that I've had past their prime as the feel and body were this brew's best attributes. The carbonation was fine and if wheat or oats were part of this beer, it wouldn't surprise me at all. Yeah, I need to find a fresher can but even so, I can't see this measuring up to the better examples to be found in these parts. Worth a go once for junkies like me that are always looking for something different from more readily available breweries...

I tried this beer at the Westside brewery. It was part of a six sample flight. It poured a hazy golden with white head that left some lace. The scent had very nice citrus notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus peel presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body and had good carbonation. Overall it was a great beer.

I've grown so weary of IPAs. I tried this one because of the name. I thought "Haze" meant it was one of the new "hazy IPAs" that are supposed to bring those like myself who have grown tired of them back into the IPA fold.
Alas, it's an IPA. Just an IPA.
Having said that, it's not half-bad. It's pretty refreshing, and there is a decent juicy fragrance and flavor that make it drinkable. The flavor has a bit of citrus pith to it, which I was always okay with. It's the really piny stuff that turned me off. This ale has little, if any, pine notes.
As far as IPAs go, the brewery has done a solid job. It's still not my favorite style, but my disappointment isn't great because this is still an enjoyable beer.

An unflitered double IPA, this one is not bitter. Extremely good - a bit more hoppy than most DIPAs this beer has a well balanced flavor profile and is worth drinking.
