Antler Ale

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass at the brewpub. The appearance was a slight light hazy amber color. There was a decent transparency to it allowing carbonation to be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Lacing stuck but eventually slid into the body. The smell had some light caramel malts lightly backed up by a nice gently roasted nuttiness. The taste followed the nose in a sweet slightly roasty way. On the palate, this was sessionable in a nice light sweet roasty way. Overall, I almost always had this with their reuben every time I had it and always thought this was solid stuff.

On location in Gaylord on 2 occasions.

A: Medium-dark orange, clear, with a half finger of tannish head that seems thick but diminishes to edging and spotting.
S: Some tropical fruits and citrus notes, but light.A bit of leaf and some semi-sweet malts.
T: Decent hops presence with sharper citrus notes that pull through the taming malt. Some orange zest and a ghost of spiciness round out the finish.
F: The body is a solid medium with plenty of bite and a rolling crispness. Finish is dry and holds strong.

 

 

Very faint toasty malt with a bit of aquosness and virtually no hops.
Brilliantly clear amber with biege head. Dripping lacing and a thin coat in time.
Flavor has more going for it than the aroma. Nice toastiness with a touch of sweetness. A bit of tart that seems hop related and a fairly long somewhat drying bitterness that lays softly and nicely on the tongue. Hop flavors increase with warming and round out the drink just fine.
Kinda' thin on the body.
Not a great beer but hitting well on a day of over 90 degrees. An easier drinker yet holding a enough character to make it worthwhile.

Reviewed on 6/29/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malt, oat, and bready malts. Flavor of bready malt, floral hops, and corn malt. Overall, I found this beer to be ok, but there was nothing great here.

From notes. Consumed September 7, 2010. Evidently, this beer has been resurrected.

A - Served in mug. Amber colored body. Off white head.

S - Caramel malt. Floral hops.

T - Mild bitter hops presence and caramel malt.

M - Medium

D - Average. It was the best of the three on tap and that is why I refilled my growler with it. My Grandpa liked it.

i was camping in the Upper Pen of Meatchicken and on the way home we stopped into the Big Buck. the hostess was a total B_tch! so the evening did not start well.

after that i ordered a few beers and then a steak.

the place is pretty cool. the beer was very good. this ale is a nice bodied beer and very easy to drink.

there was a customer satisfaction survey so i put in my 2 cents worth. i was sent a gift certificate for another visit. it was way betta than the first visit.

Sample at the Gaylord location: Clear amber color with a thin ivory head that dissipates steadily. Minimal lacing is evident. Light-bodied and mildly bitter with a touch of sweetness. The finish is light citrusy hops. Not the best "transition" between their lighter and darker beers. While it is not a bad beer, I think I will just skip over this transitional step next time.
