How cool is this??? My parents-in-law live in Northern Michigan and they know I love good bier.... so when my birthday rolled around, they picked me up a mini-keg of this wonderful Big Buck Maibock and brought it down to me in Cincinnati when they came for a visit! They said that they tried nearly ALL the biers at Big Buck before deciding to purchase the Maibock.... that must've been fun!
ANYWAY, this little mini-keg.... well, not quite a mini keg... it's this 2-1/2 gallon plastic container that you put in your fridge and it has a "tap" on it (gravity feed). However, the container is not pressurized.... interesting set-up.... never seen one like this before. So, I drew it into my trusty pint glass to form a perfect 1" head of off-white, tight foam. The beer itself was a deep amber color. The foam left fairly pronounced lacing down the sides of my glass as I drank.
The smell was not too pungent. It did have a distinct toasted malt characteristic to it.
The taste was quite good! Definately malty with flavor on the sweeter side... just a touch of hops to balance.
MF: Creamy smooth and rich. Perfectly carbonated and chewey.
Drinkability: Not sure of the abv.... but it was well hidden. I had four pints in a sitting and didn't have any adverse effects. I recommend this!
