first got this with my dinner at bass pro shop and instantly liked it so i went back and got a growler to go and...

this isn't even close to what i had at the restaurant :(. pretty much a below average ale batches must be very inconsistent, not very balanced use of flavors, a little hoppy. no more growlers of this, but the growler itself is kinda nice.

Tasted at the Big Buck Brewery in Grapevine, TX on 06/08/06.
Golden-amber in color with a low off-white ring for the head. Light biscuity/bready malt aromas and flavors. Nothing outstanding here in terms of hops but it is well balanced. Light-medium bodied, clean, and refreshing.
A very nicely balanced easy drinking malt-centric American Ale/Amber Ale ... I have a hard time with the "Pale" in there due to lack of hop representation ... A nice session ale ! Surprisingly, one of the better beers here in my mind.

The coloring on this beer was a bit odd. I would have to describe it as an amber beer with a tinge of red. The clarity was exceptional and overall it was an easy beer to drink.
I didn't get much in the way of scent but the initial taste was huge. Unfortunately the tastevanished very quickly. Nice balance beween malt and hops.

Antler Ale is Big Buck's admitted crossover beer. It's the one they recommend for folks just easing into beer that has hops. As a result, it doesn't taste like much.
The body is a classic amber color, with a pretty nice beige head of medium-sized bubbles. Right from the beer fridge, Antler has slight chill haze, but it soon clears up quite well. The secondary head, fed by the constant stream of CO2 from within is more impressive and lasts the duration of the beer.
The nose is very muted, but slightly fruity, with a hint of malt and no discernable hops. There's a vague berry aroma that functions as a prefect transition into the flavor, which is identical--slightly fruity, almost sweet and with just a touch of malt flavor. With almost no hops in the finish, the residual sugar sours just a touch in the corners of my mouth.
The beer is smooth and clean, which is more than I can say for lots of brewpub beer I've had.
All in all, this beer is exactly what it's trying to be--unchallenging and very average--nothing bad and nothing great.
