Tasted at the Big Buck Brewery in Grapevine, TX on 06/08/06.
Amber in color with a low off-white ring for the head. Typical American Amber caramel malt aromas and flavors. Nothing noticeable here in the hop dept; actually leans a bit too sweet. Medium-light bodied.
A fairly standard American Amber/Red Ale that's not going to turn any heads ... Not sure why so many brewpubs still bother with this difficult style.
Per Chalkboard at the Brewpub:

Red Stag's color is closer to amber than red. Head is fairly short and doesn't last long. Aroma is a sweet-smelling combination of amber and caramel malts. Flavor is that of a typical amber ale with a bit too much caramel malt. The caramel malt is sweeter than usual here, just to the point of being too sweet. A touch of hop is noted, which probably keeps the sweetness from totally dominating. Red Stag is just okay, I've had many beers in this style that have appealed more to me.

A nice red ale with a clear light amber color although not much of a head.
There is a distinct taste of hope but it doesnt overpower the brew. I was impressed with the huge mouthfeel. You would almost describe it as meaty. An easy drinking beer with a long finish on the back of the tongue.
Of the six brews I tried from Big Buck, this ranks near the top.
