I had their export lager about a week ago which seemed to be almost the same, except this is called "Craft" and has a German flag on. Yes the ingredients are totally the same and it still only contains hops extract as opposed to hops. They must either be very confident in their beer to add the German colours to their can...or maybe they are just arrogant. Let's find out.
First beer of the night, which is when I am usually most generous. Aroma from the can is very malty and alcoholic. A bit better in the glass. Looks totally fine, fairly good head...quite bubbly. 2nd pour is more smooth.
Probably a little better than the previous 5.0 by this brewery that I had. It has the same heavy maltiness that is not typical of German beers, and it reminds me of a Belgian dubbel again...and some cheap French beers such as Pelforth. More like Pelforth in fact. The heavy maltiness overshadows the hops, and the alcohol taste isn't especially well hidden, and it tastes more like 12% than 5%. This is one of the worst German beers that I have had for sure. And I don't believe that a beer should allow itself to be part of the German purity law when it contains hops extract as opposed to hops. In addition to the heavy malt, there are flavours of banana skins, orange peel...and maybe some mud. Mouth feel is heavy yet thin.
Not a fan...but I will finish it.
