Nearly black with elements that are reddish-brown. Caramel notes that are moderately malty with a hint of purple prunes. A mellow beer that offers a pleasant roastiness.

500 ml can coded "P: 07/05/2024 E: 07/11/2025 11:44:03 15"

Notes via stream of consciousness: Bright and early on a brew day I've got to wait for my water to come up to temperature so what else is there to do but have a beer? This is a swarzbier with a moderate 4.5% alcohol by volume so it's probably a good start. The body is black in the full glass but when held to the light you can see that it's actually a very dark brown with some copper and orange highlights showing. It's quite clear which is nice. The head is a finger's width of densely creamy foam that's just slightly darker than antique-white; I guess you'd call it a light khaki or sand color. In the nose I'm getting a little bit of bready malt with a delicate waft of caramel, dark fudge, and a dull coffee-like roastiness. On to the taste... the caramel is the predominant note and then it throttles back a bit and splits to display the grainy maltiness, a lot of nuttiness, and a coffee-like roastiness. There's a light note of dark fruit, some herbal hops, and then everything falls back together before concluding. A median bitterness keeps it dry, and it fades with notes of fruit, herbs, and roastiness. It's light but still flavorful, and we knew that going in as it's just 4.5% ABV. I like that, and I imagine that there were a lot more beers like this in days gone past. It also works well with Germany's current DUI laws where just .03 is the legal limit. I'm not sure but without having had breakfast a 500 ml can of this might get me there! In the mouth it's light-medium in body with a gentle caress on the tongue from a moderate and very fine-bubbled and seemingly natural carbonation. That brings me back to the head retention and lacing. The head held up very well, and the lacing followed with wide rings and swaths of lace peppered between with spots and splashes so that it covers basically the whole side of the glass; very nice. I doubt that this will score well as it's on the lighter end of the spectrum but it is within stylistic guidelines, and it is really nicely balanced, rounded, and brewed.

500 ml bottle, bought at KaDeWe, Berlin. Dark brown colour, nearly black. Large and lasting greyish brown head. Moderate malty aroma with notes of caramel and bakery, hints of prunes. Moderate carbonation, mellow and pleasant mouthfeel. Nice moderately malty flavour with a pleasant roastiness, hints of schwarzbrot. Easy drinking. I like it.

L:
-pours a dark brown with ruby hues and a small to medium,foamy,cream-coloured head
-medium to high carbonation visible
S:
-malty,plums,nutty,coffee
T:
-mild sourness, metallic,licquorice,black bread,coffee,nutty
F:
-medium carbonation
-light,watery body
O:
A lot more acidity than most other Schwarzbiers.
Accompanied with roasty notes and an offputting metallic note.
I'd put this closer to a Czech Tmavy than a Schwarzbier.

Colour dark brown with ruby highlights, clear. Foam beige, fluffy and stiff, long time does not reduce its volume. The aroma does not happen too much, also is not very clear. It is light roasted coffee, little notes of fruit, hops. The taste is generally the same as the aroma of roasted at a moderate level, slightly fruity notes. The loading medium toward low.

I've only had a few dark lagers but this is my favorite so far.well balenced taste that's not to overpowering. Strong scent of dark roasted grains and flavor notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Would love to try this again.
