Poured from A 500mL bottle into a Chimay Goblet.
On the pour just over one finger of a tan head form on top of a murky dark brown to amber body. Some uneven lacing forms.
The Aroma is bready woth a light toast, but there is quite an emphasis on the German lager character, making this quite smooth, especially for a Doppel Bock. There is a brightness from some fruity notes from the yeast.
The flavor.is much more bright up front than expected with the yeasty fruit notes really showing up right away. After a short moment, it cleans up making way for the caramel malts to come through. There is very little if any detectable hop flavor. This beer has quite a sweet finish.
The feel, despite the sweetness in the taste, actually comes off as surprisingly dry. This males the beer surprisingly drinkable and that classic German lager yeast makes it even more crisp.
Overall this beer is decent and a change of pace when looking at doppel books. It is pretty mild for the style, but depending on who you are you might like it more or less.
