At the end of the 60s, the success story of German Beer began. Conceived as an "exquisite beer", it quickly became a sought-after "means of payment" in the former GDR. Thanks to the best ingredients and its full-bodied taste, it became the beer for the extraordinary occasion not only for guests of the Leipziger Messe but also for all those who could afford something exclusive.
Revived after reunification, it is experiencing its renaissance according to the best brewing tradition.
Ingredients: Brewing Water, Barley Malt, Hops

Stumbled on a single of this while beer shopping the other day and decided to give it a try. This is not the Dunkel version, which I think comes in a very similar can. Was caught off guard a little when I came here for the review to discover just a single rating on it...no reviews. So, I feel honored in a way to be the first to review this one...hopefully another terrific German brewed lager at 5.2% ABV. Straight from the fridge at around 40 degrees F, a semi-aggressive pour into a pint glass resulted in a 3-finger white compacted foamy head topping a slightly hazy, straw to pale gold colored lager. There's some yeast sediment floating around in there. Unfiltered lager...love it! Moderate carbonation. Looks rather nice in the glass.
The aroma presents all of the typical lager notes. It's got a malty backbone, Noble hop presence. Has hints of lemon in there, some pepperiness, spiciness. Smells like a decent, yet lower end German lager.
The flavor follows. It's malty sweet upfront, the refreshing citrus hits mid-palate and then on the backend comes the spiciness in balance for a very refreshing finish. Slight bitterness, and sweet on the finish. Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing. I really like this! It kind of reminds me of the Wernesgrüner Pils Legende sold at Aldi, which I also enjoy this time of year. I paid $2.59 for the single, and would buy this again. It's not gonna blow the doors off like a Hofbrau or Weihenstephaner lager would, but it is very good nonetheless. If you see it, I recommend a try. Surely worth the $2.59. Cheers y'all!
