This beer I had out of the bottle in Kiel
it pours a dark red brown with a nice frothy light tan head that lasts leaving a nice light lacing in the glass
It smells just like its name indicates strawberries-it permeates the room--also nice hints of sweet malts and perhaps bananas to round it out.
It tastes great for what it is a fruit beer--Germans add porter to all their fruit beers(their way of naming them) and it does taste of strawberries along with the caramel malt sweetness. It goes down great with a nice mouth
I really enjoyed this beer and it is what it is if you don't like fruit beers don't drink them.

500 ml bottle acquired in a beer specialty (laden) shop in Berlin, Germany, and served on the same day (June 3rd, 2011), into a generic snifter. Reviewed live. Me Berliner friend said the name translates to "strawberry porter", but commented on the rarity of strawberry beer in Germany. They don't like fruit beers here, yet they're perfectly willing to use candy sugar additives (see Berliner Weisse variants to understand what I'm talking about it).

Porters (or in this case, Schwarzbiers) are allegedly considered "girly beers" in Germany. I'd like to introduce them to some of Mikkeller's higher ABV beers and see what they say then.

A: 1.5 finger head of lovely cream, tan colour, nice thickness, and good retention, especially in a snifter. Ruby-black colour. Appealing.

Sm: Exceptionally strong scent of strawberry. Feck's sake that's so powerful I could smell it before I poured it. Ester ester ester. It's overpowering.

T: Strawberry heavy. A bit like a swimming pool popsicle or even bubble gum, but not quite as simple as maybe some Germans would like. By no means a porter; certainly a schwarzbier. Tastes like candy sugar was added. No hops except esters, and some are a bit artificial. I long for more complexity, but it's good in spite of its relative simplicity. Balanced well, though a slight majority of the flavour is present in the first half. Finish is strong for the style, containing the dying hops from the climax, which itself occurs pretty early (roughly at the halfway mark). I do like it.

Mf: Smooth, wet, and refreshing, but coarse where required - particularly on the climax. Nicely complements the refreshing nature of the flavours in the body.

Dr: Not a porter in the English sense of the style/word, but a good schwarzbier nonetheless. Worth a go for simplistic lambic fanatics, schwarzbier fanatics, and fruit beer advocates. Just don't expect anything too complex or bitter, because the name does not adequately refer to the beer the way we understand it in English speaking countries. Very affordable in Germany, but relatively low ABV. It will please a wide demographic. I could see this as a success even for the Yank female demographic.
