A bonafide hop-head’s delight. This is a beer truly bursting at the seams with juicy, tropical hop presence. Beginning with pineapple, mango and guava the ride continues into a pleasant citrus finish. The conjunction of malts add an assertive tangy counterbalance to this hop parade to remind you this is a real brazen beast.

5 ounce sample pour in CB's tap room on 12/30.
This beer on draught is probably the best DIPA to come out of CB's brewhouse to date.
Cloudy look with a finger of foamy head that gives off a great piney aroma.
The hops hit first with light citrus (most notably orange, grapefruit, and some pineapple) that was not expected, given the initial taste and the "let's hop the crap out of it" CB IPA method. Mouthfeel is superb until the finish, when you start noticing that the malt is trying to balance everything out, but ends up falling short.
Makumba is SO CLOSE to the New England IPA style that everyone has grown to love over the past few years.
It's almost as if someone over at CB realized that evolving craft beer drinkers want more than hop bombs with high IBUs (and I don't mean this in a negative way).
If it can be balanced through the finish, CB has a winner here.

I have joined BeerAdvocate just to rate this beer! I am not a "professional" rater but know what I like. My wife and I really like IPA's, such as Flower Power, Sculpin, Limbo, Southern Tier 2X IPA and Smuttinose. To our taste, Makumba is equal to or better than all of them. By far, the best we've ever sampled from Custom Brewcrafters.
