Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark brown/amberish color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, dark malts, little else.Taste is malts, smoke, some sweetness, alcohol is present. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

Heavy, even for a wee heavy. Pours more brown than red, to my surprise. Tastes thick of malt, with little hopping. Tastes bitter somehow, but not of hops. Sweet flavors come on strong and dissipate slowly. Too sweet and thick to be enjoyable.

Flavor is peaty, slightly hoppy, a bit sweet. I suppose that's the Scotch Ale style, but it's not one I particularly care for. Drinkable, but nothing special.

A-pours an a deep amber with an off white head with decent retention
S-caramel, toffee, toasted marshmellow
T-tons of rich caramel and toffee, with a bit of toasty biscuit in the finish and a nice caramelized sugar flavor like freshly made peanut brittle
M-medium bodied and average retention
O-pretty solid scotch ale, I wouldn't seek it out again but wouldn't mind drinking it if it was available

it looks like these guys do a fair few beers in this style, which i think is awesome, but this one isnt my favorite, and pales in comparison to the oak aged wee heavy i had in february. this is punishingly sweet, and in some ways quite one dimensional. the malt is mid crystal range and very sugary, brown sugar and honey notes to it, like sweet wort itself, the fact that it is fermented is only partially obvious. auburn rust color to it, and looks fine in the glass, although not particularly heady. the aroma is better than the taste, the sweetness isnt so dominating and the yeast makes an entrance. it lacks depth in the flavor, no smoke, no caramelized notes, no dark fruit suggestions, just sticky sweet crystal type malt all the way. it tastes fine, its just not as evolved of a beer as many of their others. the residual sugar limits the drinkability that would otherwise be there thanks to the lighter body and low abv for the style. one pint was enough for me, although its cool to see these guys having such a presence in rochester these days. i remember way back when they were just starting out...

A-Black in the glass, one finger off white/brownish head.
S-Peat, roasted/smoked malt, slight coffee and some dark chocolate.
T-Peat, smoked malt, coffee, chocolate, nutmeg, some brown ale similiarities, not much bitterness and the balance is off.
M-Medium bodied but not much carbonation.
O-Too much smoke. Almost like a smoked ale. Balance needs to be improved.

On tap at CB Craft Brewers in Honeoye Falls, NY.
This one pours a caramel-esque brown, with no real head or lacing.
Smells quite sweet, lots of caramel and brown sugar, with a little bit of chocolate.
This isn't all that great, but it's not horrible. It's way too sweet for the style, and falls a little bit flat in terms of flavor complexity- it's just sugary sweet malt, with just a little bit of chocolate to keep things slightly interesting.
This is fairly light bodied, too light for the style, with a lower level of carbonation.
Another miss in the CB's lineup.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber-brown with a 2 finger off-white head. Great head retention.
Smell: Smells...sweet. Not much depth, a little bit of floral character in there. Almost reminds me of very dilute honey. Just not a lot going on here.
Taste: Similar to the smell in that an odd mild sweetness is the most prominent flavor. A little bit of grainy malt and acetaldehyde slither into the picture. Not to be overly harsh, but to my taste there just isn't much flavor, and the flavor that is there is not particularly good.
Mouthfeel: Very light-bodied for the style, which doesn't help the watered-down flavor profile. Medium carbonation.
Overall: This just flat out does nothing for me.
