Bottle shared with Sammy and Liam.
Beer is black with a minimal tan head.
Nose is very nice. Smells heavy and chocolatey. A bit of anise.
Taste is also very good. Chocolate and anise, some bitterness. A bit smoky.
Full bodied, moderately carbonated. Slick and sticky.
Overall, quite tasty. I think this one is much better than the ratings suggest.

Poured a really dark brown color into my Duvel glass from a 22 oz bomber. Pitch black once it is in the glass with a nice one finger mocha colored head that dissipated fairly quickly.
Aroma is extremely malty with lots of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and cocoa coming through.
Taste likewise is also predominantly malty. Lots of chocolate, cocoa character upfront. The hop presence is evident in the taste as opposed to the aroma. The malts completely drown the hops in the aroma. The hop-bite does a good balancing act in this otherwise malt bomb.
Almost full-bodied and the alcohol is very well masked making it easy to drink.
A very good RIS from Custom Brewcrafters that is definitely worth a try, especially if you enjoy RIS's...Cheers!!!

A: Pours a nice deep black with a full finger of mocha colored head that takes a good while to settle. There is only minimal lacing left on the glass as it drinks.
S: The nose is sweet malt, charcoal, burnt toast, roasted nuts, and slight stone fruits. I was expecting more plum and raisin for a RIS, but this beer has only a slight sweetness. I get a lot of bittersweet chocolate and a touch of salt as well.
T: It starts off with a quick blast of sweetness mixed with burnt toast and some saltiness. I do actually get a sweet raisin like quality carrying through in the middle. The finish is more sweetness, but there is a monster charcoal tastes that lingers on the back end. The flavors left on the palate are pure bitter and burnt.
M: Full bodied beer. It starts out sweet with a touch of salt, and finishes super burnt and a bit drying.
O: I'm perplexed by this beer. The nose doesn't give away inevitable stone fruits that show up. The beginning and middle of this beer are spot on for the style, but the finish is pure burnt bitters. I tend to like my stout with more char than raisin, but this beer is char to the max as it tries to move off the palate.

22oz bottle poured into a DFH Signature glass. No bottle dating info found but this just hit the shelves so I'm pretty sure it is quite fresh.
A: Tan one finger head with good retention. Good amount of lacing throughout. Body is completely opaque.
S: Mostly chocolate and coffee, some grassy hops and also moderate doses of vanilla and dark roasted malt.
T: Starts with some chocolate and dark fruit. Then the flavor becomes completely dominated by huge amounts of near-burnt dark roasted malt and fusel alcohol. The first sip or two will really cause your tastebuds to stand at attention.
M: Body is medium-high...very creamy. Carbonation is medium. Finish is very astringent, warming and alcoholic.
O: My palate is blown. I think this would challenge even the biggest of extreme stout lovers. My wish would be that the bitter roasted flavor was tuned down a bit to let some of the other flavors from the nose shine through. Still a nice warming beer for a cold upstate NY winter night.
