My wife loves German malzbier so when I saw this I thought we’d give it a shot. It looks like you’d expect it to so I won’t even go into that other than to say that the head retention are surprisingly lacking for such a malty product. The aroma is very much like a malzbier. If you don’t know what I’m talking about it’s like Malta Goya, Malta India, and so on except not quite as heavy. It smells like dark wort. It’s grainy and sweet, and lightly cocoa-ish. So what do I think of this? Well it’s OK. It’s richer and heavier than some of the German malzbiers which obviously explains the title of “Doppelmalz”, and it is, in fact, more like Goya Malta or something else in that vein. I won’t complain about it!
