Packed with robust coconut and dark chocolate notes, this full-bodied Stout boasts vanilla and oak character from Bourbon barrels. The brew’s molasses-like sweetness and roasted coffee undertones are enhanced by the addition of toasted coconut and brown sugar.

Pours a very dark brown with a half inch tan head that left little spotty lacing. Smells and tastes of bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, molasses, vanilla and just a hint of coconut. Medium bodied for the style, medium carbonation, a lightly creamy mouth feel and a slightly dry finish. Expected more coconut but a solid stout.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger tan colored head, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a wide collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bourbon are present in the nose along with some hints of coconuts.
T: The taste has flavors of bourbon and chocolate malts, finishing with strong notes of coconuts.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer has a good balance between flavors of bourbon, chocolate malts, and coconuts. It also does a good job at hiding its alcohol.

this is really excellent stuff. i had no idea these guys did barrel aged beers like this, how exciting! i am immediately impressed with how good this is, the coconut it toasted and warming and bold enough to come through a sturdy and well made base stout, but also natural to me, not sunscreen or perfume, and its delicious and sort of addicting. big milk chocolate notes in here, less of the bitter roasted barley than some of these have, but excellent depth and structure nevertheless, and the char and oak profiles are strong here, which i think adds an additional coconutty element. the whiskey itself smells stronger than it is, this is neither boozy or overly vanilla forward, more wood than anything, awesome with the coconut, and creamy feeling. my mom brings me back these coconut chocolate covered macadamia nuts when she goes to hawaii for work, and this reminds me a lot of those favorite candies, smooth and rich and a little bit isnt enough. this is impressive, especially as a first experience with a barrel aged blue point beer. very well done, and at least as good as some of the crazy hyped coconut imperial stouts. lovely.

Looks a bit thin, jet black with very little head. Smell is a bit nondescript, not much to it, light coconut mainly overwhelmed by booze. Tastes pretty poor, from a big fan of ba stouts, this is a weak effort, poorly executed. Tastes like the coconut is burned to within an inch of its life rather than toasted, very little barrel presence, very disappointing. Mouthfeel is poor, that burned coconut leaves a gritty feeling in the mouth, i couldn't wait for it to end. Overall its a very poor effort from a pretty poor brewery, seems half baked, rushed and lacking in quality and execution.

Number 4 in their barrel series (of which I've had two), this is priced much more reasonably than the others I tried - this being $14, the others were $25. I'm thinking the previous releases didn't move at such a high price-point, especially being from an obscure brewery, so they made an adjustment... 2/2/17 bottling...
Black pour, appears moderately viscous; produced a finger of dark foam and left splatters of lace behind on the glass... Aromas hit with the anticipated vanilla, wood, and what I presume to be coconut... On the sip, surprisingly dry - which I appreciated - I was ready for a "sweet treat" but the sugars were handled with moderation... Barrel and bourbon flavors coat the palate, with hints of coconut, a little char of bitterness, and some lightly sweet toast points, as if sprinkled with sugar and caramelized... Nice woody aspects and a bit of chocolate and coffee in the background... The feel is about medium-weight - it is not syrupy but it isn't too light either (which I dislike in imperial stouts) - could've been a little more dense, but it came off as refined, not wimpy... Smooth, it left just a little bittersweetness lingering behind for a nice, drying finish. Very nice overall. Recommended.
