On tap at the brewery.
This beer is the first of a series of beers brewed by the brewery that are formulated by employees other than the brewmaster.
Poured a deep brown hue with a one finger frothy off white head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured a faint burnt grain, some cocoa and a light sweetness.
The taste was upfront maltodextrin with some cocoa and burnt grain toward the finish. Perhapas there was a problem with overattenuation here, but maltodextrin just kills the flavor in beer. I have used it myself and will never again.
The mouthfeel was a bit thin for the style with the aforementioned annoying quality.
Overall not something that I would try again. I actual had trouble finising it. The porter BP put out last year was so good, why even bother with this version?
