Herbs, umami, and slight bitterness. Its color makes it look like soy sauce, and its flavor makes it taste like soy sauce. Not much fizz. I don’t regret trying it, for the novelty, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

A Holiday brewed with mellow, yet ever present cinnamon/spice tone. A drinkable version for sure, but still too much for me. I'll reach for Blue Point's Toasted Lager year-round vs. this one.

Pours a pretty ruby brown color with a small tight white head that left a thin wall of lacing.

The aroma is a bit faint but I do pick up the winter warmer spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. Some dark fruit and brown sugar.

The spice flavor is more pronounced in the taste. Noticeable nutmeg and cinnamon. Some gingerbread and dark fruit notes going on. Light tea notes in the finish.

Moderate in the feel with tingly carbonation. Starts sweet but finishes quite astringent. Spice profile lingers on the palate.

A decent winter warmer. Its a bit too dry and the spice seems to linger too long.

Notes via stream of consciousness: The label states that it's brewed with spices and natural flavors; I wonder what those natural flavors are. A rough pour has delivered a clear, deep chestnut brown body with orange and crimson highlights when held to the light beheath a two-finger thick cap of rocky khaki colored foam. There's definitely some cinnamon in the aroma as well as... nutmeg, vanilla, and gingerbread cookies or spiced wafers. It's fairly bold. On to the taste... I hope it's not as spicy as it seems to be... and it's not. The gingerbread cookie thing really comes through. It's almost like an oatmeal-raisin cookie as well, and carrot cake. There's some caramel to it, and just a swirl of cocoa powder. It's sweetish but not sweet, and there's some bitterness to it. Of course the spices are helping to balance it, and I think they've done a really good job of it. Nor do it think it's over-spiced but it is getting close. In the mouth it's medium to medium-light in body, and soft and smooth due to a moderate carbonation level. That helps with the spicing as the carbonic acid of the CO2 can bolster the spiciness. Looking back, the head held up fairly well, and it's left some surprisingly good lacing behind. In the end I think it's pretty decent but there are better spiced beers out there.

Look: Pours an off-beige shade of brown with little to no head and no lacing. Color is indicative of caramel-colorant being added to the beer, that might just be my imagination but it just doesn't look natural to me.

Aroma: Nutmeg, lots of nutmeg. . . a little overboard to be honest. Pleasant notes of cinnamon and nondescript red fruit.

Taste and feel: At first I thought this was a pumpkin beer. The spice isn't unpalatable but it's just not done well for a winter warmer. This is clearly brewed with nutmeg which isn't a bad thing, I don't mind nutmeg, but it's is a very powerful spice; a little goes a long way and I think the addition of so much of it here is overbearing. The flavor is good . . . the body is okay . . . some nice red fruit flavors and hints of caramel. it's just so generic and bland; it's basically indistinguishable from the myriad of other "pseudo craft" corporate beglian wit / winter warmer/ fall style beers that are out there - almost as if they all use the same recipe.

Overall: This isn't bad as much as it is boring. Blue point has been on my list of breweries to avoid for a while now, but I figured I'd give this a shot since it was reasonably fresh and I hadn't had anything from them in a very long time. It certainly isn't a bad beer, I enjoyed drinking it - but sadly this is just another example of how corporate craft beer can never match up to the real thing. This beer has no soul - no drive and no passion. It tastes almost as if they just re-used and recycled the same fall spices used in their pumpkin beer and reformulated it into a slightly different winter warmer recipe. It's pathetically generic and boring, I hate to say it but this is why I generally avoid bluepoint, they make very basic beer.

Poured into a belgian snulip style glass.

L: 4.25. Requires some lighting to get more coloration than just black. Nearly opaque. Dark ruby towards the bottom.
S: 4. Nice spices. Clove. Cinnamon. Deep maltiness. Dark fruits.
T: 3.75. Follows the nose. Slight touch of vanilla. Pie crust. Hint of cherry. Finishes with a nice roastiness.
F: 3. Thin body for a winter warmer.
O: 3.75. A great Winter ale that's in that goldilocks ABV zone. Not too light that its unsatisfying but also not a one and done.
