Beer review fromm 6/14/12; this was called Lessings Local Blonde and was on tap at Finnegan's in Huntington, NY: pours crystal clear gold color with a creamy white head that faded quickly and left a creamy layer on top.

Smells of sweet malt, grains, caramel, toffee, light floral hops, husk and grass. Very basic nose that had no real discerning notes.

Tastes like it smells, with sweet malt, wet bread, grains, caramel, toffee, light floral hops, husk and grass. Very bland and lacking any real flavor, this tastes like a homebrew.

Mouthfeel was light and crisp with carbonation on the flat side, medium body and mild feel in general.

Overall not very good and basic at best, which is being very polite since it's a local brewer from LI. This review may be under the wrong beer, but this is the only Lessing's that I could find on BA.

NOTE: Lessing's is a holding company that owns several very good restaurants and has a big catering arm that is also very good. I wish I could cut them some slack on this effort, but the beer was just so blah that I rated it as listed.

stopped by the brewery to grab some swag and scope out old howling bastard on cask and saw this one avail so grabbed a taster. brew showed up straw pale, even more so than the pale ale. smell and taste is malt dominant, very pilsner as opposed to blonde. pretty bland, but a nice one to throw back on a summers day, little watery too which fits the bill for the summer. rather malty only 28 ibu and 5.5abv decent malty summer beer. not sure what those vefore me had but this is billed as a blonde at the brewery and the low ibus are indicative of the malty flavor and lack of hops. for a blonde, pretty good, but that is not a style I typically am Impressed by.

4oz sample at Blue Point.

L - orange/amber color with a off-white head that thinned to a ring.

S - piney hop with a toasted malt background.

T - like the aroma there is piney hop bitterness balanced out with a toasted malty background.

F - medium bodied and easy to drink.

O - I enjoyed enough to have a 2nd sample of it.

- Sampled at the Blue Point Brewery tasting room -

If you've been to the BP tasting room before, you'll know they have all their beers listed on the blackboard behind the bar. When I went there yesterday (3/12/11) there were 11 beers on the board and 12 tap handles, and the 12th was just labeled "Lessing's"

Talking to the bartender, it looks like this beer is brewed especially for the Lessing's catering company, which if you've ever been to a long island wedding you're probably familiar with. They own about two dozen or so catering halls around the island.

A - Ice tea with a low head and ok lace.

S - Toast, wax, almonds.

T - Toast, hazelnuts. Touch of lemony hop. Rolling toasted malt finish with a slightly chemical bitterness.

M - Medium-light body with a semi-sweet finish.

D - OK flavor but not well integrated. There's something a touch unpleasant about the character of the bitterness.
