Tasted at the Karakterbier Weekend - Vichte on 11/1/2003...
Appearance: a ruddy hazelnut brown, slight haze, yellowish-tan bubbly head that dissipates quickly leaving a thin half-crown
Aroma: nutty, mapley, licorice, port-like, dried figs, rum
Flavor: oaky and maple-syrupy, slightly tangy, a somewhat tannic bitterness, touch of roast, a dryish/tangy port-wine finish with a woody aftertaste
Mouthfeel: medium body, slight alcohol warmth, low carbonation, somewhat astringent
Overall Impression: Quite a complex beer. Very inviting, full-flavored and multi-dimensional aroma. I wouldn't be surprised if this beer is aged in wood barrels for a period of time. This was definitely the best beer I tried at this festival. No doubt a great one to stow away for a while.
