Got this one from Hopsolutely this past summer. Thanks a lot for the beers guys!

From a bomber into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a three finger, slightly foamy, medium-thin, off-white head with good retention. Perfectly clear burnt umber with medium levels of carbonation for the style. Head slowly fades to a full foamy cap and sticks to the sides of the glass. Foamy cap leaves lots of foamy lacing down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Caramel, toffee and oak on the nose. Some honeydew and light rye perhaps. Nice stuff, though not overly bold.

TASTE: Some oak up front with notes of caramel sweetness, but kind of empty initially. More flavor at the swallow with some toffee, oak notes, some rye whisky perhaps and some grassy bitterness. Not all that flavorful and not much character at all really. Some spicy alcohol as well.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. A little foamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a touch dry. A bit of heat lingers, but not much.

OVERALL: A little flat and lifeless perhaps. Nothing off-putting per se, but nothing worth remembering. The barrels lend some alcohol and wood flavors to the show, but not much else. The barleywine was probably okay to begin with, but we’ll really never know. Rather unimpressive and mundane. Can’t win ‘em all. Thanks again for all the brews guys!

Cheers Liamt07!!

Appearance. Pours a very hazy, deep burnt orange with almost a finger of ivory head.

Smell. Whiskey barrel, raisins and plums, some sweet malts and caramel.

Taste. Raisins and caramel, plums and tannic barrel wood. Abv is pretty well hidden.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, medium-strong carbonation. Not typical for a b-wine but not a deal breaker.

Overall. The thinner mouthfeel threw me off a little bit but otherwise good stuff.

I preferred this slightly over the Sawdust City version. Pours a nice amber brown, finger of head and some sporadic lacing. Scent is sweet, dark fruit, plums, oak notes and a touch of pepper. Flavours were slightly more "woody", so the different barrel might have influenced the profile a bit more. Also, this was bottled vs the Sawdust version which I had on tap and found the mouthfeel a bit flat. Underlying flavours are the same, leaning more on the sweet fruity side, with caramel malts dominating and hints of peppery spice. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch of dryness. A tasty barley wine, with solid barrel aging characteristics. A unique concept which yielded slightly different results based on my experiences.
