A classic brown British ale rich in colour and taste, this beer is crafted with six different malts and finished with East Kent Goldings hops. Dark brown in colour, Nut Brown has a full malt body that settles smoothly on the palate towards a slightly sweet finish. Hints of honey and chocolate malt give it a truly unique flavour.

A: Pours a clear and dark brownish red colour. Head is about 1/2 inch think and then settles to a thin layer that continues to lace the glass.

S: Nutty, chocolate malt makes its presence, coffee undertones, slight bread and no hop aroma.

T: Nutty and chocolate come through but no flavours are coming through like they do in the smell.

M: Med- low body, great carbonation, dry finish.

O: This is a good brown ale. The aromas are nice and well present yet you are let down a bit in the taste as they are much more mellow. Mouthfeel is great over all. I'd recommend this beer.

Got this free at an event. This made me happy. Copper brown colour. Smells of mild chocolate with some fruit and bicuity malt. Flavour is quite sweet. I don't get much bitterness or hops at all, but still very pleasant. Smooth mouthfeel. A very solid brown ale.

So I've got a 12 of this from the Beer Store, and it says distinctly that it's brewed by Kawartha Lakes, but BA says the Kawartha Lakes variety is discontinued and now it's an Amsterdam product. OK.

SO...this beer looks amazing. Easy to get a one-finger moderately dense head, clear deep brown with a rich reddish (almost raspberry, it's so deep) tone. Looks amazing against the light...head dies to a film which is retained throughout, leaving irregular lacing on the glass. Nice looking beer. I'd like to give it a 4.25, but that's not an option.

Smell is good. Nutty, some chocolate/coffee notes, some dark fruit. Nice aromas. This is shaping up nicely. I'd like to give this a 4.25 as well, so I'll split the difference with the appearance.

Taste is good, too, but doesn't quite live up to the great smell and appearance of this beer. Light pleasant bitterness like mildly dark chocolate up front, then a stouty sour tang and some dark fruits nearer the end. The unfortunate part is that the sour tang has a metallic edge. It's still good, but it could be better.

The mouthfeel, unfortunately, is not great. It's too thin, and doesn't hold up to all the other goodness here. Carbonation is okay at first, but dies too much too quickly and leaves the beer flat. That's too bad.

Drinkability could be good, and if you drank them quickly it would be just fine. Unfortunately, it just doesn't quite stand the test of a rest on the table. No nursing this one.

Good beer. Best cold.
