On tap at Volo, served in a tulip.

Poured black with a dark brown head, leaving behind a collar and some lace. Nose isn't potent at all, not much coming off this. Only some subtle chocolate, brown sugar/vanilla, pastry breadiness and a touch of alcohol. I'm not sure if I can identify the barrel treatment here (was it a spirit or just oak?). Taste has the alcohol up front, with more brown sugar, vanilla and chocolate (attribute this to the cocoa nibs?). Some dark fruits as well. Fairly full feel, boozy with some ethanol notes on the back end. Significantly roast and bitterness in the finish as well. I think this would do better with a more prominent barrel influence, and with a bit more age - one serving was enough based on the alcohol heat alone. Enjoyable, but needs some work. Admittedly, I haven't cracked the base beer yet that was bottled so I don't have a true reference point for this.
