On tap at the Amsterdam Movember Brewstache event, into a plastic pint cup. Was actually a blend of 5 barrels, but it was being advertised as listed here.
Poured black with some whisps of head and tan collar that sticks around. Little carbonation, but that's somewhat expected in this blend as it wasn't recarbonated after blending. Nose holds some firewood smoke (from the smoked porter), sweet brown sugar and rich chocolate notes which distinctly resemble those from the Tempest. Solid hops come through more peripheral to this, and are clearly derivative of Boneshaker - more of a citrus aspect to them, but compliment and add complexity to the profile. Generous amounts of caramel and oak barrel character come in as well. Taste has a dominant smoked and roasted stout base, which also brings about some brown sugar and alcohol. With this, the hop flavours return and resemble some citrus and ligther fleshed fruits. More barrel character and vanilla, complex and pleasant profile. Low carbonation and lingering alcohol notes, sweet with some balancing hop bitterness. Modest roastiness continues into the finish. Certainly an complex and unique offering put forward by Ian, everything appears to make an appearance in some form or another and the degree to which different flavours came through in this as it warmed was impressive. I would love to see this again (I went for seconds and thirds), but I would encourage Amsterdam to continue to experiment along similar lines.
