Had during Cask Days 2012.
Beer is black with a small bit of tan head.
Smell is full of coffee. As in, there could never be any doubt that this beer has been flavoured with coffee. Roasted malt is there as well but, at least in the environment, I found it hard to get much else other than coffee.
Tastewise, again, this is a coffee dominated beer. This makes it hard for me to review, as I am not a coffee fan. There are some coffee stouts that I think work very well- Peche Mortel is a good example. This one, for me, is too coffee-focused. Now, it is a very rich coffee flavour, and there is some roast malt, but I did not get a lot else. Clearly a quality beer, but you have to like what it is doing.
Medium bodied, low carbonation level.
Overall, not for me. If you are a coffee fan, then I think this would be a great beer for you. It strikes me as very well-executed, but there is nothing subtle about it. The coffee isn't integrated into the beer so much as the beer is subsumed into the coffee. So, really a matter of taste,

On cask at Cask Days 2012, into a pint glass.
Black as can be, with a dark brown head. Dense retention and lacing. Nose is spectacular, almost solely composed of fresh roasted coffee grains ("full city" as Ian and the name indicates). Perhaps a shred of dark chocolate. Taste is a coffee'd-the-hell up Tempest, huge milk chocolate and a ton of fresh roasted coffee grain in the finish. Grains and chocolate linger. Full feel, great density and creamy palate. Loved this, perhaps the highlight of the festival. 4/45/45/4/5
Having had this again on tap at the Amsterdam Tap Takeover at Volo, I can further confirm that this is probably one of the best smelling coffee aromas ever. 4/5/45/425/5
